Viсe President of the USA Joe Biden spoke in the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday, December 8, 2015.
In his speech, Biden mentioned the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of dignity, drew parallels with the history of the United States, and urged Ukrainian politicians to unity and responsibility, drew attention to the need of fighting the corruption and completed the speech with Taras Shevchenko quote.
Joe Biden: I never tell people from other countries what they should do, but you can not find any democracy in the world where the cancerous tumour of corruption prospers so. Corruption takes away resources from the people, it does not allow the growth of economy. We know about it. You know about it. Ukrainians know about it.
United States stand with you in this fight. We understand that it is hard work for you, but we have increased support to your economy. Yesterday I announced that we are giving 190 million to fight corruption. Overall this is 760 million of direct assistance. And you have to go towards building a new society, new democracy. You need difficult reforms.
And as long as you
continue to make progress to fight corruption and build a future of opportunity
for all Ukraine, the United States will stand with you
